An Original, Complete and Pretty Scarce Imperial German WW1 Era Model 1914 Mauser Saw Back Bayonet and Scabbard! These are pretty scarce bayonets as I believe these were produced for export but as war loomed on the horizon for Germany, they were kept in-country for use on their Mauser rifles! The bayonet and scabbard are original to each other.
As you can see from the paper tag, still glued to the scabbard, it came from a bayonet collection. The saw back bayonet was produced by Samson Werk, who was one of a handful of manufacturers of these bayonets at the time. The blade is very nice, only factory sharpened with the saw blade in nice, sharp condition! There appears to be a proof mark on the back of the blade, looks like a Crown over an Anchor or a Letter, maybe an "L" for Ludwig. The handle is clean, with only a couple small dings from use, but the wood looks good!
The spring loaded locking button works perfectly too! The Black painted scabbard, although straight and Original to the bayonet, has about 60% of the black paint finish remaining. The scabbard is clean, undented and is not rusty, just missing paint. Overall, this is a very nice example of a pretty scarce Imperial German WW1 Era Model 1914 Mauser Saw Back Bayonet!
