WW1 German M1916 Camouflage Helmet

WW1 German M1916 Camouflage Helmet The German M1916 Stahlhelm (Steel Helmet) was introduced into regular service during the Verdun campaign in early 1916. This rare model helmet has the original 1918 bold coloured camouflage pattern to the outside, as well as side-mounted horn-like ventilator lugs which were intended to be support for an additional steel brow plate or Stirnpanzer which saw limited use by snipers and trench raiding parties, as it was too heavy for general use. The interior has the remains of the original leather lining and the faint trace of a name'Heren'? In white paint on the inner rear visor. Dimensions The helmet has a length of 12.25 inches (31cm) by a width 9.2 inches (23.5cm) by a height 6.75 inches 17cm.

The helmet weighs 1.23kg Condition The helmets paint is worn in places but with the camouflage still clear. The interior has rusted but is stable. Part of the leather lining on the right side is absent and the remaining leather is well worn. For further detail and condition, please see the accompanying images.
