WW1 German Model 18 Cammo. Steel Helmet
This is a very nice WW1 German Model 18 combat helmet. Paint at around 75-80 %. Colors are: tan, dark brick red, and what looks like the original feldgrau paint. Zig zag pattern separated by black lines. This maker is Eisenhuette Silesia. Steel liner band has remains of the correct WW1 leather liner. One pad remains in pouch. What I find unusual with this helmet is the chin strap. These Model 18's are normally seen with a two piece chin strap. This one is one piece and looks absolutely original to helmet. It is all there, looped through one end of bail and sewn at other end.
Perhaps installed before the two piece straps were available? Been on there a very long time for sure.
An old fabric covered brass wire has been put through bails as well. I guess to hang up. Don't know when done but is very old and could even be during the war from the looks of it. I've owned this helmet since 1991.
