WW1 Helmet Signed Wagoner F. C. Nash Ft. Worth TX, Insignia Paint Underneath
Interesting US Army WW1 Helmet: Signed under the rim --Wagoner F. The outer surface was overpainted with textured paint while in use, but beneath there seems to be lots of insignia, in red, yellow and black. The center top appears to have a large black circle with spokes radiating out from the center. Within the black is a lighter green with yellow on one side of the circle. The front has some kind of red insignia beneath the overpaint.

Camp Bowie was in Fort Worth during the war. Nash in Texas, born in 1883, married in 1904, from Robertson, Texas. Helmet found here in Fort Worth. Perhaps a good paintings conservator could reveal what's beneath the crusty overpaint.

The red insignia on the front appears to be at least 5" across, and the black circle on top about 6" in diameter. I know there were several Divisions that used black circles.

I would also guess that "Wagoner" was his occupation, not his first name, but whoever painted his name in yellow (like the yellow on the top) sure had a good painter's hand. We don't end auctions early.
