WW1 Imperial German 8th Uhlan Prussian Regiment Captains Tunic This is a German lancers (Uhlan) tunic (ulanka) from the early days of 1914. The tunic is made of blue wool with red, blue and silver bullion cuffs. The red collar is decorated with silver bullion and braid with blue trim.
The silver bullion shoulder boards bear two gilt brass stars, a silvered button and the numeral 8, indicating the rank of captain and his unit. The lining is made of red and quilted cream silk. All the buttons are present.
Dimensions The tunic is 31 inches (78.8 cm) long (rear side) from the collar to the end of the tunic. The width from shoulder to shoulder is 18 inches (45.7 cm). The arm length (on the outside) from shoulder seam to end of cuff is 25 inches (63.5cm). The waist is 18 inches (45.7cm) across. The chest (laid down flat) from armpit to armpit is 19 inches (48.3 cm).
Condition The tunic is discoloured especially on the shoulder areas where it was more exposed to the sun light, it has thus been clearly on active campaign use. There are few tiny moth holes near the collar but the overall condition of the tunic is good. It bears the thread remnants of where medals have been worn on the left breast.
The lining is free of damage, bearing only the normal signs of wear. Please see further images below for detail and condition..
