A fine and rare early Great War hand carved rose vase made by a German Prisoner held captive in Lancaster POW Camp stationed on Caton Road Lancaster. The Camp was initially guarded by soldiers of the Kings Own in 1914. The vase beautifully carved with roses and " Learn to suffer without Lament" To my Darling Ethel " + intertwined EB " Lancaster 1914 1915. The vase on a stand. Exceedingly rare item with two known examples held in the King's Own Museum, Many of these POW stayed in the area after the War. Other examples which turn up more are from Knockaloe Camp on the IOM..
