Ersatz Model 1895 Prussian Rolled-Edge Filzhelm (felt helmet). His example was manufactured as a Model 1895 with brass fittings, but without front visor trim or rear spine. Body has damage to the wearers right with a crack of about 4 inches. Brass fittings include the kugel (instead of spike), two brass retaining studs secured to the spike base and a pair of M91 sideposts. There is a small hole on the kugel.
Prussian heraldic eagle is brass and has the matching patina look. It has two screw posts mounted to the back of the wappen. These screw posts then passed through the helmet body which has no eyelets. There are fine line cracks at the exact spot where the threads pass though the helmet body. Cockades are repainted and chinstrap is not original. As is typical for an Ersatz Filzhelm, the liner is sewn completely around the circumference and the stitching is visible on the exterior. The sewing threads are visible but the original liner is not held onto these threads. The liner has disintegrated into many pieces and are held onto the helmet by some form of hot glue. There is also a break at the wearers back at the sewing thread spot (about 2 inches long). Rolled-Edge Filzhelm are really hard to come by and this is an original one for sure.
