WW1 Scottish Home Guard Brodie Helmet. A nice example of a First World War Brodie Helmet from the Scottish Home Guards. It is a war office pattern helmet (rimless) in olive green with a 1916 pattern liner of Oilskin and netting. It is stamped under the rim FS 203, the initials standing for T. Firth & Sons Ltd of Sheffield.
There is a red, white and black hand-painted tartan decal to one side. It is complete with its leather straps. The helmet measures 31cm (12 ¼ inches) front to back and 29.5cm (11 ¾ inches) side to side.It has an inner circumference of 71cm (28 inches) and a depth of 12cm (4 ¾ inches). There is a small dent to the crown of the helmet and a small split to the rim. The chin straps are a little cracked and worn with one of the chin straps appearing to have been repaired with glue. The lining is a bit worn in parts but is generally in a decent condition with no major damage. The helmet has general age wear, oxidation and patina with some loss to the paint in parts but is otherwise in a nice condition for its age.
