This is a very nice, WW1 US round trench lighter, with one side displaying the American Eagle, and the other showing the national shield. This lighter has a very straightforward design, with a screw on cap which reveals and then snuffs the wick out to extinguish the flame.
The flint striker doubles as a plug, which when pulled out reveals the fuel reservoir to fill the lighter with fluid. There is currently no flint inside this lighter, with a somewhat different screw in plug to put a new flint in this lighter. The wick is short but feels supple still, and with a new flint this lighter should be fully functional.
The bottom of this lighter has a small plaque on it, having a couple of horseshoes, what appears to be the bust from a mercury dime, and in very small lettering: Ministere Finances. This lighter has some remnants of what looks to be a golden colored finish, with most of it worn away. This lighter measures about 43mm in diameter. Overall, a very nice WW1 lighter...............
