(AEF) for use in World War I. It had a 6.75 in (17.1 cm) double edged. Blade useful for both thrusting and slashing strokes, unlike previous U. The handle is made of cast bronze. And uses a conical steel nut.
To hold the blade in place. The Mark I's blade was blued with a black oxide. Finish, the bronze handle was chemically blackened for night maneuvers. During World War II, stocks of Mark I knives were released for issue to Army units with a need for a close-combat fighting knife, though in terms of actual numbers the Mark I did not see widespread use during the war.
This Mark I and its scabbard was among my father's WW II belongings, which have sat untouched for about 70 years. As the photographs attest this knife and scabbard are in exceptional collectible condition, particularly the original blackened finish that so often was (foolishly) polished away. Whether it was issued to him, or acquired as a souvenir from his war service in Europe and North Africa, I do not know. The item "WWI 1918 L. Mark I Trench Knife & Scabbard Excellent Authentic Condition" is in sale since Wednesday, May 30, 2018.
