WWI BRITISH ARMY WOODEN GAS RATTLE, W. The iron mounted wooden mechanism on a faceted wooden handle 29cm long.

These rattles were used to warn soldiers of inbound gas. They were light, easy to carry and of a simple design. The loud clicking sound was more effective than church bells and air horns. Marked om the wooden handle with W.

On the end of handle has the broad arrow and wat's looking like number 38 or 88 not very visible. Comes in original conditions as found. Will require a good clean. There is a long crack on the middle piece of wood(please check photos).

A nice piece of British history and a very rare item to find. Please study pictures very well for conditions as these are the central part of the description.
