WWI British Helmet Unit or Soldier Marked

Up for sale is a neat example of a British-made Brodie helmet from World War I. These were fielded in the middle of the war to increase protection against shrapnel and other hazards in the trenches. This is a British-made example with about 50% of the lining remaining.

The oilcloth cover is gone and most of the chinstrap is still there. On the exterior is a large carved "V" and an "A" to the left and "M" to the right of it. We're not sure what this designation was--whether a unit, perhaps, or a veteran's initials. There is a red painted marking on the side as well. The exterior has the thick texture characteristic of these Brodies.
