This fine functioning WWI US Engineering Compass was made by Cruchon and Emons of Paris. The compass has a brass housing and a glass dial and is so designed that, with the lid up, one can look at the target ahead and, by means of a polished brass plate, at the scale below. The inscription on top of the brass case reads, US ENGINEERING CORPS.

On the reverse of the case it reads: CRUCHON & EMONS / PARIS and No 6922. The dial is silvered with red cardinal points. This compass came to us in a khaki canvas pouch which probably doesn't date to WWI but it's possible it was used in WWII and housed in this case.
