Wwi Prussian Field Marshal's Shoulder Boards Matched Pair
This is a beautiful pair of First World War Imperial Prussian Field Marshals shoulder boards that remain in excellent condition. Each board consists of a single row of fine silvered bullion wire, interlaced with black threading, in a chevron pattern, and flanked by a row of fine gold-colored bullion wire in a thatched pattern on either side. The end of each board is with a loop formed by the braid. This is for attachment to the uniform by placing the loop over the uniform button at the shoulder, and with the wide end sewn into the seam of the uniform. Affixed to each board is a pair of exquisite crossed Field Marshals batons in silver. The underside of the boards is of red wool with one board having some slight, insignificant moth damage.

Each board measures 54.5 mm x 115.5 mm. This is a very scare and massive pair of boards that are in excellent condition and display beautifully. The exalted nature of the rank of Generalfeldmarschall was evident during World War I as only five German officers (excluding honorary promotions to members of royal families and foreign officers) were designated Generalfeldmarschall. These were Paul von Hindenburg, August von Mackensen, Karl von Bülow, Hermann von Eichhorn, and Remus von Woyrsch. Although well-known and capable German commanders, even German Generals Erich Ludendorff and Erich von Falkenhayn did not received the coveted marshal's batons.
