WWI Era US Army M1909 Leather Belt Holster for M1917. Revolver - Marked: Rock Island Arsenal 1911 - NICE Condition. Up for sale is a WWI Era US Army M1909 Leather Belt Holster for the M1917. This holster is faintly marked: Rock Island Arsenal 1911 on the rear. It is used, see photo's for. The leather is still pliable and supple. All seams are intact, no fraying. Some surface cracks, crazing on the top of the fold of the flap and the belt loop, see photos.

There is a repair under the flap. A leather reinforcing strap was added to prevent the tearing on the flap, see photo. The leather has darkened with age, but still retains most of the rich dark brown color. The US marking on the front is faint, but readable. The end plug has been replaced.

This holster was originally designed to be a "Butt Forward" carry design. It is NOT a left hand holster. Not a perfect example, but a good representative holster with an Early 1911 date. Please see: page #168 in Edward Scott Meadows book "US Military Holsters and Pistol Cartridge Boxes".
