There is a repair under the flap. A leather reinforcing strap was added to prevent the tearing on the flap, see photo. The leather has darkened with age, but still retains most of the rich dark brown color. The US marking on the front is faint, but readable. The end plug has been replaced.
This holster was originally designed to be a "Butt Forward" carry design. It is NOT a left hand holster. Not a perfect example, but a good representative holster with an Early 1911 date. Please see: page #168 in Edward Scott Meadows book "US Military Holsters and Pistol Cartridge Boxes".
