This is a wonderful old French World War I to World War II framed medal grouping to a French aviator who was killed in action during the early days of World War II. There are a total 13 medals plus a First World War French military pilot's badge set in the frame. The frame has only been open once to check the number on the pilot's badge, which is B 19588. All the medals are original issue and were obviously put together by the aviator's family.
The have been in the frame a very long time as the background cloth has faded leaving the darker impression of each medal below it. The ribbons on all the medals have been very slightly but evenly faded over the course of the years.
The set has been together since it was first framed with nothing added or substituted. All these piece are framed in a beautiful, old antique gold painted wooden frame with an old wooden backing and glass covering the medals. Presumably, since there are no other medals from the Second World War, the owner was most likely killed prior to the end of the war. A truly beautiful set of medals and decorations to a gallant French airman who saw action in both World War I and World War II.
